Dew Claws

DEW CLAWS

This is an article I found from the AVMA and they are completely correct. Dew claws do NOT need to be removed. It was done traditionally only in the hunting and sporting breeds to avoid them getting caught in the brush. That tradition is carried out by breeders to this day. But it's cosmetic now and NOT medically necessary unless the dog develops a real medical issue ( bad break, infection or tumor) .

I do not like doing any more trauma to a puppy than absolutely has to be done if any at all..........thats my two cents worth!

Soft Spot

Most puppies, just like babies, have a soft spot on the top of their head. This is especially true of the tiny ones. It normally closes in the first year and a half, but until it closes, its extremely important to protect that spot from injury. To help prevent injury, keep your puppy from bumping his head and playing too rough. In addition, don’t allow anyone to touch the soft spot. The Chihuahua is the only breed that a soft spot can be normal. an "open fontanelle". As far as it being a hereditary condition, yes it is. The open fontanelle/molera is actually considered a sign of purity in Chihuahua's and it's in their breed standards..
